Regular open water swim practices are nearing. Professional triathlete Chris Foster, who is ranked 3rd American in ITU point totals (at the end of last season), prefers open water training swims over any other.
One of his favorite workouts is led by Coach Gerry Rodrigues of Tower 26, world-ranked open water swimmer and coach to newbie to professional swimmers and triathletes.
This workout entails ocean swim circuits:
Warm-up
10 min jog along the shore
Main set
- Approx. 600 m – Build up swim toward buoy
- Sprint straight back to shore
- 200 m – Run down the shore, back to starting point
- Recover 1 minute
Repeat above set 5 times, or as time allows.
It’s still a little cold out. Stop by either TriLAB locations to pick up a wetsuit and neoprene swim cap to wear under your brightly colored latex cap, to keep yourself warm and visible.
